This is one of my very favorite things to do with truffles, a perfect way to start the morning. As in the previously posted recipes of this series, it illustrates the glorious simplicity that best highlights an extraordinary ingredient. When you’ve given this a try, you can check out the following bonus recipe for evening kicks. (If you don’t have a truffle, try grating a little bit of dark chocolate over your coffee…or for absolute decadence, try both at the same time!)

Ingredients:

Freshly-brewed coffee

Heavy cream, to taste

Grating of truffle

Preparation:

Brew coffee in your favorite fashion. Top with heavy cream and a grating of fresh Périgord truffle.

Truffled Irish Coffee

Coffee, alcohol and truffles all at the same time? Yes, yes, and yes!

Ingredients:

Coffee

Whiskey

Heavy cream

Turbinado sugar

Preparation:

Brew coffee as desired. Place a teaspoon of sugar in the bottom of a heat-proof glass, add some good Irish whiskey or Kentucky bourbon (or mountain moonshine), fill two-thirds of the way up with coffee, and top with fresh whipped cream and grated truffle. Enjoy at the end of a fine evening.

A Truffle a Day is a series of one-a-day truffle recipes, excerpted from the soon-to-be-released Cooking with Truffles: A Chef’s Guide. All recipes can be prepared with or without truffles, depending on the voluptuousness of your pantry. Previous recipes include: Truffled Corn Chowder, Truffled Grits, and Oeuf à la Coque Truffé.
